I spent my Unit 3 in Mainland China so I could broaden my practice and horizon. To me, the mainland was a big unknown even though I had some knowledge of the language and culture. The last time I've been to a city in the mainland was back in primary school during a school trip. I wanted to explore the possibilities of taking my practice to unfamiliar territory and see if I could still be a self sustaining artist. Admittedly although I initially had many solid ideas, practically they weren't as easy to execute as imagined. But it didn't stop me from observing and documenting, something I've always been very confident in. Although I observed many similarities between China and Hong Kong, they couldn't even compare with the differences even though geographically and historically Hong Kong is just another part of China. The experience I gained in China allowed me to create a better understanding of the potentiality of an developing an artistic career in China. It also helped me familiarise myself with various aspects associated with establishing myself in China.
